Lupus patients take the drug daily with almost zero side effects at higher doses than are being given to Covid-19 patients along with a z-pack. Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. Today, it is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, some symptoms of lupus, childhood arthritis (or juvenile idiopathic arthritis) and other autoimmune diseases. It is not clear why hydroxychloroquine is effective at treating autoimmune diseases. It is believed that hydroxychloroquine interferes with the communication of cells in the immune system. There is a search on right now for patients that have been taking Hydroxychloroquine because of Lupus, etc for a long term that have came down with Covid-19. At this time there is zero. There is an active search going on among the medical community as we speak for those persons but none have surfaced. The head of Rheumatology at John Hopkins had over 400 patients on it. He recently wrote a letter to the medical community expressing how safe this drug is to take in the levels that appear to be working on Covid-19 patients. 600 grams for a loading dose, and 400 mg per day for a week when they can quit. If you listen to NBC, MSNBC, CBS or the other Trump hating channels, this drug is worse than thalidomide back in the 70's that caused birth defects. They don't want people to use it and are trying to influence the population to not use it. Why? Is it because they want more people to die so they can point fingers at Trump? It appears that may be the case. Meanwhile it's been used since 1954 with minimal side effects among its users. Considered to be a very safe drug.
