Looks like you dodged the answer.

Now, if you question had been "when in the United States," you might be right, buy my ancestors could have certainly told you stories of what went on in the Depression here in the U.S.

I remember my father-in-law telling me of work sites during that time. There would be a line of guys standing around near the foreman's hut/office/whatever. In the work area, guys would be using shovels to throw dirt into the bed of a truck. When one truck got full, it pulled out and another backed in. The time of the trucks doing those maneuvers were the only breaks the workers got from shoveling.

If a man stopped and leaned on his shovel while a truck was in place for loading, he was fired on the spot and the foreman sent in the next man in line. Plus, those guys were working for something like $1 per day.
The dollar never tanked, even then. So ol wise one, again, tell me when the dollar was ever devalued to nothing.
You can't because it's never happened.
And I hesitate to ask someone who has invested their money as you have but I'm still curious.

Our national debthas actually seem the lowest increase percentage wise in over 150 year.
But as a history teacher you already know that I guess. Obama included.
I think you are incorrect about the percent and years. Try being an adult and doing without the insult next time.

Sorry to sidetrack a little, but damn that would be tough to live through, especially when trying to feed a family. Many of us, me included, have never faced that kind of hardship. It’s hard to imagine the actual hardships associated with a true SHTF scenario.

Not just the hardships during, but also what might lead to it. That’s why it’s so hard to plan.

Name one time that's ever happened here.
when was the last time in the United States a Socialist ran for president.or for that matter, a Socidalist president? We’ve never had so many young people clammering for “free stuff.” I think they’re called millinials? During the Great Depression the population was far less than nw, they planted gardens and grew a lot of their food, hunted and foraged for food but land is not so plentiful now, yes we still have the same amount of land but more people are standing on it, there’s no place to land a sustaining garden. Another depression would be chaotic and the government helpless in most cases.

I don't have much but I think g&s might alway have intrinsic value. In a true economic collapse, 5k may not get you a tent and a loaf of bread. Jmo

The generations before me is why I never consider being called an Okie an insult. I know what the folks that survived the Depression, the Dust Bowl (AKA Dirty Thirties), and WWII went through. Their courage turns the name Okie into a badge of courage.

I buy gold and silver at the "coin and gold exchange", its a small shop on north may, they have a decent selection of coins and gold and silver bullion. the prices are pretty good, the last time I was in there, about a week ago, their prices were better than what I found on ebay. he charges a little over spot price and usually buys for a little under spot price. of course silver and gold prices go up and down so there is where you make or lose your money. their number is 405-753-4473 and jon is the main guy to deal with

I'll give him a call. I've decided to start buying silver because the silver:gold ratio is so high atm. Damn... I wish I was of working age 15 years ago and knew what I do now.
