I can't say WHY, but I want to build an SBR bolt action in 308 or 30-06 that'll take AICS/Pmags. So I assume it would need a thick enough barrel to chop and thread. I know I need extensive work (or a $300 Magpul Hunter stock and adapter) to even get the mags running, plus lots of other money.
Does anyone still have a "truck gun" Rem 700 308 or 30-06 laying around at "truck gun pricing"?
Last time I bought one I got an LE-trade bull barrel, but it's been several years.
Located in Mustang.
I put emphasis twice on "truck gun", so I'm definitely not looking at high-end purty rifles.

I'm open to other BOLT action 308s and 30-06s that can either be converted, or take AICS/Pmags. I don't really wanna build an AR-10.
The 700 just seems to be the easiest project.

See if you can find a 700CP. I picked one up last year. It’s a 700 in .308 with a 12.5” threaded barrel. Has an attachment area to put a buffer tube and some have an SBA3 on them from Remington.

That is the most beautiful non-Q bolt action I've ever seen!
