Noticed sometime yesterday afternoon that the remaining three hens were staying in the coop. Figured they were still shell shocked. Latched them up before dark last night. Went out this am to let them out, and there was no trace of them. The coons must have come back sometime yesterday during the day to get em.
    Unbelievable.
I’ll start with some more chicks after the first of the year.
On a related note, just picked up some game cameras. I’m going to sit on the coop with the quiet 22 a few nights.

Coons and possums are easy to catch with cat food in a live-catch trap, FWIW, and a single .22 between the eyes will terminate the coon threat.

Just be warned: coons are about 90% blood by body weight. Well, maybe not that much, but they bleed profusely, so don't shoot them on anything you don't want blood stained, and wash the trap afterward (blood is highly corrosive to iron/steel).

It surprised the heck out of me the first time I shot one. I thought I was going to end up with an empty pelt like a deflated balloon...

Well this must be a bad side of town for chickens. Yesterday I lost a hen. Her body was still in the coop but head was missing. Today lost another and it was the same scenario...head gone, cavity opened up but very selective in eating. I am thinking its a hawk.
