Every big industry has its skeletons in the closet (or market). I don’t know about the poultry industry, but beef packers have months of stored beef in freezers. All they have to do is restrict the supply, watch demand go up, then flood the market. I am told (from my former ranch manager) that this is exactly what they did when the early COVID food shortages hit. The cows didn’t go anywhere, but the companies’ desire to profit off of fear did.

I have been stockpiling beans and rice and spam for a while now. My sister has a bunch of chickens so I can get eggs from her plus we have several other people out here than sale them. I guess I need to start stocking TP as well. I have some extra right now but need more.
