I can't speak for the others, but being 73 years old, I knew immediately what it was about.
I learned about the dog breed MANY years after my youth.
I never was a fan of chow chow. I grew up using this pickled tabasco pepper sauce on beans.
My grandma had some lady friends and they'd make chow chow. Loved it on a bowl of beans!!!
Different upbringing I'm 75 and first time I ever heard of Chow Chow as something you eat was this thread. From my grandparents on down it was meat and potatoes with gravy salt and pepper. didn't need anything real spicy to make it good.
OK....somebody wanna tell me what the hell chow-chow is?
Granny Rhodie's version of it was a spicy relish made primarily with peppers (Not bell pepper) Onions, green tomatoes and pickling spices. i wish i had the recipe, unfortunately she took it with her when she left this world as far as I know.
