I think the major reason he retired when he did was because his boys played in the 6A championship and he didn’t get to watch it because of his coaching responsibilities. He’s not the only coach who has left the game because he was missing out on his kids’ lives. The fact that he thought he had a worthy successor to keep the program going at a high level also played into it, but I think that high school playoff game was the precipitating event.

I hadn't heard that, that would certainly be a possibility.

That's probably part of it, but he also had a LOT of pressure from the University after the Mixon fiasco.

Old material. You gotta step up the game man. Good game by the Sooners today. Questionable a bit there at first but 3 turnovers and an offense that couldn't move the ball inside the 25 made the difference.

As much as I don't care for his dad.....he's not wrong. It would be hilarious if this were the case because Sanders wants his boy to stay another year too, because he doesn't want him to be #2 behind Williams. Assuming a lot but ok.
