What's the deal with all of the Essex frame/Colt slide 1911's floating around? Why would anyone take a nice Colt and stick it on a junky Essex frame? I don't get it......

Nothing wrong with Essex frames. Put a few kits together using Essex frames fom Sarco. Never had issues. Back in the day they were about the only company making 1911 frames only. IIRC Safari Arms started producing frames after Essex. Lotsa kit guns made from those two companies.

Back in the 80's a lot of ignorant people thought you would get in trouble with a US prop marked 1911/a1
I don't know how many Caspian, Essex, Ranger, AO, Safari, AMT frames I sold to the paranoid masses.
