Seems like a glut of Colt questions so this is just coincidence. I want to get my FIL a few extra factory Colt 8 round SS mags for his pistol but there is not a place on the webs that has any in stock. My questions is does anyone have a colt 1911 with the 10 round mags and if so can you post a pic of how much further the 10 rounder sticks out the bottom of the grip compared to the 7/8 rounders? Mysterious FIL is pretty traditional so not sure how much he'd care for the look of the extended mag. Thanks for the help.

When it comes to 8 or 10 rounders then CMC, Wilson, and Tripp are the way to go from my experiences. You can google images on how each respective mag looks seated, there are a TON of them out there.

Wilson all the way, unless he just HAS to have Colt.

My first (and only) CMC had issues (bad spring from factory). They fixed it for me, but I didnt expect to get a bum mag from the factory. My Wilsons have all been flawless.

For all the replies. Didn't realize many of the aftermarket mags are more than acceptable for the 1911s. I had a LGS show me the Wilson mags and I declined as i thought the factory would be best. Well, the factories are not available. THanks for all the feedback.

Most competition shooters run with the Tripp Cobra magazines followed by Wilson combat.
My 1911 with a ten round Tripp with in the pic.
It does sport a Dawson mag well so keep that in consideration when thinking about how far it extends.

Wilson is a standard for quality. They are pricey, but if anything happens for the life of the mag, they will take care of it.
