I think it will be a step forward for gun ownership and crime reduction. If open carry is passed criminals will hopefully think twice before committing stupid acts near or around an armed public.

Article in the Daily Oklahoman presents an overwhelmingly negative point of view

...Opponents said the present gun licensing system works well and doesn't need to be changed.

Rep. Emily Virgin, D-Norman, said constitutional rights are not without reasonable restrictions, particularly when the safety of others is at issue.

She said it's important for a gun owner to know how to use the weapon and not "just strap it on your hip and take it wherever you want.

"Guns and domestic violence are main problems. Women die of it every day. Increasing access to guns without training, without background checks, women will die because of that."

Rep. Mark McCullough, R-Sapulpa, said gun licensing procedures are constitutional.

"If you're going to carry a gun, that's a huge responsibility, and I do believe there should be a minimal threshold. If you need a license to drive, you should need a license to carry."

Coody said the difference between getting a driver's license and a gun license is that driving is a privilege and carrying a gun is a right.

The measure now goes to the Senate.

Senate President Pro Tem Brian Bingman, himself a gun owner, said he had not studied the legislation but favors training for people who want to carry a gun.

There is a group in Oklahoma that lobby's the legislature. They call themselves pro gun, but are the lobbyist that killed the first OC legislation.
Their organization is having major internal troubles now, so this might pass.

Can you recall who this organization is? A side note, it's encouraging to see this moving forward,
