my grandpa got his hands on an .308 AR (DPMS LR308 upper) and wants to convert it to .243. Is the barrel the only thing that's needs to be changed? I would think bolt and mags would work but wanted to ask here while I start my research.

yea looks like that's it then. Wonder why you don't see more .243 ARs out there considering how popular a cartridge it is and ease to make one.

Maybe because of you can do 6mm creedmore or 6.5 creedmore for the same or better ballistic numbers and have the "latest and greatest "round than something from 1952
I like .243 and am a fan. My very first rifle was in .243win. However, I highly doubt with 6.5 grendel or 6.5CM if I ever buy another .243. 6.5 Grendel is available in a shorter chamber, lower powder usage, higher weight bullets and better bc than .243 ever thought it could be.
Bolt ? If 243 is rim is smaller than a 308/6.5 cr case
