Dale, I just saw a product that can legitimately make the claim on the box that it may reduce the severity of cold viruses (including corona family). I'm not making any claims, I'm pointing to a claim that is being made.Shooter - my concern in reading your OP was that you were advocating it as a cure or preventative for corona virus infections (including COVID). I am not opposed to judicious "self-medication" using FDA approved over-the-counter products. Your title was, "Could Stopping Viruses Really Be This Simple?"
As an aside, unfortunately research is very expensive in terms of limited money and researcher time. It is best for the most knowledgeable subject matter specialists to choose the most promising research topics. I know enough to know that I am not qualified to make such recommendations. "Peoples' Choice" research topic selection is definitely not the way to go.
Thanks for your patience and civility in this discussion.
Research has already been done on this ingredient, hence the ability to legally make these claims. That is a far cry from telling someone to take niacin or something.

I am much more likely to try a common drugstore cold & flu product that says on the box it can reduce the severity. I just don't see a downside to it? The "doctors" tell you to take the liver toxin tylenol for covid; often people who are sent home from the hospital are told nothing other than that. So if people are already using common OTC remedies from a drugstore, how is this any different?
I appreciate your civility as well; I'm not trying to convince YOU, I am just sharing something I thought of with my peers on this forum assuming their own intelligence and competence when it comes to processing information and making their own decisions. Can we agree that isn't the same as misleading people to push a false cure?
PLENTY OF RESEARCH ALREADY DONE ON Pelargonium
Efficacy of a pelargonium sidoides preparation in patients with the common cold: a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial - PubMed - "Conclusions: EPs represents an effective treatment of the common cold. It significantly reduces the severity of symptoms and shortens the duration of the common cold compared with placebo. The herbal drug is well tolerated."
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5849386/ - "Conclusion The P. sidoides extract EPs 7630 is effective and safe for those of pediatric age and may be regarded as an alternative option for the management of aRTI."
You are arguing as if this is some new claim with nothing to back it up Dale...will you now admit this product may reduce the severity of cold viruses?
Since I'm on a roll, here is another pre-covid product I keep in the medicine cabinet that has some study behind it; I can tell you anecdotally it works for kids too: Esberitox® | Nature's Way
The effect of Echinacea spp. on the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 and other respiratory tract infections in humans: A rapid review "...this evidence suggests that further research is warranted."
