I'm considering building a pig gun. I'd like to have a 12.5" barrel and run it suppressed. Max range will probably be under 200 yards where I'll be hunting. I'm really interested if there is any significant difference between the two within these parameters. I'll start with factory loads until I have enough brass and time to handload. I figured I'd try to post here to find actual experiences and hopefully avoid the acrimony this topic seems to raise. I have researched both calibers enough to be familiar with commonly touted strengths and weaknesses. For the record I'm not interested in the 300 BO. What velocities are you getting? How effective have they been in the field?

I have killed a ton of pigs with 6.8 spc II running a suppressor. I use an 18" barrel. I haven't checked velocity yet. S&B PTS in 110 grain is my first choice for deer, and pigs. Accuracy is great as well. XM68 is my next choice.

I think most use the 6.8 SPC in a shorter barrel, that or .300 BO. Mine is an 18" barrel.

I have put together a couple 6.5G builds and really like them (will deer hunt with one this year). I'm also gathering parts for a 6.8 build as I've heard great things about it also. I don't think you can go wrong either way but I have 0 helpful information.

I run 6.8 90gr federal gold dot ammo out of a Wilson 16” barrel and was at 2850 if I recall correctly. That stuff is the ticket for pigs and short barrels

This is the xm68gd fyi

Yeah, over a buck a shot and wolf makes 6.5 grendel FMJ for .25c
I’ve got some of the Wolf 6.5. It shoots darn good for the money. I wish cabelas or academy would get some in. The last time I was in cabelas, they had quite a selection of 6.8 and only black box 6.5. I’ll throw in a pic for comparison of the two
