Lol, both of us were illegal. At 15 you could only legally ride a 50CC on the streets. We had to borrow a 50, go take the riding test and then got our 90cc models.

Yep. IIRC, the actual legal limit was 5HP. I think the standard 90 was under 5, but the Super 90 was over. I think I borrowed somebody's standard 90 to take my test, but I could be wrong. I think that's the main reason you saw so few Super 90's ... you were just begging to get pulled over. I did ... once. Got a ticket for speeding and a warning for illegal exhaust. Had pulled the baffles out of the muffler. Trooper told me I should put a straight pipe on it ... they sounded better anyway. Said nothing about 'horsepower.'

When was that? It's been a while but I'm thinking we could ride up to 125cc (or maybe more) in the mid '70s.

I didn't have a street bike then, but I know one friend of mine had a 185cc Suzuki? that he rode around on at fifteen.

Following current thread derailment.

I started out with a Sport 50 at 14. Saved up my money from my job in the pro shop at the local golf course and bought a Super 90.

I was 14 in 68. 5hp or 50cc up u till 16 years old. I don’t remember when the laws changed. When I turned 16, I traded in the S90 on one of these.

300 Dream, quite the cruiser back in the day.mine didn’t have the luggage rack. Don’t know the year on the s90.

I probly borrowed somebody's 50cc then. My son just sent me a link in the last week to a couple of 300 Dreams a buddy of his has for sale to be restored. Both pretty rough.
