LOL ... we've never thought about doing it for one of "our" own but we do that for armed service members from time to time. Funny how everyone's perspective is different, huh? Only time I have ever been embarrassed to do it was once at the grocery store. Right after I got a job after having been on AFDC and food stamps there was a girl in front of me in line who didn't have enough money to pay for her stuff. She had a toddler at her side and an infant and was just enough to get her through a couple days (I've been there, I know what it looks like). I paid for her groceries and then gave her another $50 and she started crying uncontrollably. Then the kids started crying ... then MY kids started crying ... Lord, what a mess! We actually became pretty good friends for a bit. I lost track of her after I moved to the City and she moved to California, but I think of her often.
