Jinx @bigred1 !

Dr. White Spine Hospital. He put my neck back together not to long ago. He has done more on me in the past.

@Parks 788 I feel for your son, back injuries are tough and long healing. Wish him well and do what the Docs tell him.
Second on Dr. White. Dealt with severe stenois with terrible sciatica, had this done last Oct and took my back to 100%. He almost had to talk me into it as I didn't want my back cut on, wish I'd of done it sooner, no regrets at all.

All these guys are surgeons, and surgeons always want to do surgery. When you meet with them just look them in the eye and ask what if we don't do the surgery? How well will the injury heal without it? Go see one of those guys that doesn't believe in surgery. I broke my neck in two places, had no surgery, turned out pretty good, blew a disk in my back, no surgery, turned out really good, broke my ankle, 2 surgeries, getting ready for #3, I am just now getting over the effects of the surgery itself, which was 4 years ago. I got a letter from my GP yesterday, saying my file had been sent to Bently Edmonds at Bone and Joint in OKC for a third opinion. I've had 2 surgeries using nurse anesthetists, one really good, one really bad, do not let them use one. And I would not go to one of those surgery centers, go to a real hospital. I wish you and your son well.

Looking for some recommendations for this type of doctor, preferably in the Tulsa area.

Situation: my 21 year old son had to go to the ER last weekend with severe pain in his right quadriceps muscle to include massive spasms and cramping. Ended up getting him into the St Francis ER and the Dr he saw seemed good. They were able to perform all kinds of test and bloodwork but couldn’t get him into an MRI machine. Several doctors were stumped on the cause. He had to go back to Stillwater to start school so the Tulsa doctors had him make an appointment with a GP in Stillwater, sent all his records to that doctor so he could get an apt for an MRI. Results came back with a herniated disc in his L4-5 and some fragmented part of the disc.

He’s a big well built and athletic kid. Loves the gym and working out. Need to get a second opinion. Unsure of the type of doctor to look for. Neurologist because it’s spine and vertebrae related or orthopedic surgeon or….? We have excellent insurance so that’s not a worry but want the best we can find in OK. Trying to get this done right to minimize a life of back problems for my kid. What can you all recommend who’ve you had success with? I think there are several on here that are in the medical field. Thanks in advance.
The neurologist idea seems logical, but Tulsa doesn't have enough and it takes forever to get into one. And they actually don't treat many back injuries. Spine surgeons are all either orthopedic or neurosurgeons and most of them recommend a lot of surgeries. Especially at his age, I would think that surgery would be a last resort. Someone who could order an EMG would help, because that can help determine whether the back situation is actually responsible for the leg symptoms. If he were my son, in Tulsa, I would actually take him to see a truly great physical therapist, Mark Hobbs who owns Total Physical Therapy in the 71st and Sheridan area. He won't do surgery, he can likely figure out the problem, and I wouldn't be surprised if your son felt at least somewhat better after his first appointment with Hobbs.

I used Lance Smith out of OKC. In and out in about 30-45 minutes. He repaired the disc, and removed the bone spurs that were pinching my spinal cord shut. I was really sore for a few days, then a lot of PT. Well worth it.
