I am going thru the same thing with our English Bulldog. Our vet diagnosed Angus with this on Monday. He is 10 years old and is my favorite dog ever.

The past two days I have read quite a few websites about this surgery and also alternatives. There are braces, special meds and other treatments to give the ACL time to heal itself.

The cost, stick in my back side OUCH! 3800 for the surgery and the surgery is just the beginning. 3 to 4 months of physical/hydrotherapy etc, and that adds up as well.

We are going to a specialist this coming Monday.
If your credit is good check out CreditCare. They have a program vet bills.

The days when a dog could be a roamer and the owner didn't have to give the dog rabies shots, heartworm pills, Parvo treatment are long gone. Now you have t do all that and even dental cleaning I hear! When I was a kid and got a dog we just put it outside and when we'd go out and call it it's come and play and that was it! It ate table scraps and whatever it could chase down. No dog food we were poor and lucky to have food at all.

We had our Westie’s ACL fixed year. Vet was in Piedmont now is called 405 Vet. He did a fix himself rather than full ACL surgery I believe for around $500. He was as good as new once he healed. Def get a second opinion

Had a lab many years ago as a kid that was running through the weeds and ended having something go into the lungs. Can't remember all the details but it was the mothers boyfriends dog and they took it to Iowa State and was left there for almost two weeks. There will still be a cost associated but the students have to learn so it's worth a try. For some reason I remember the dog being "surrendered" to the university and the care was next to nothing and then they returned the dog afterwards but it was over 30 years ago and who knows what is changed or done in different area's.

My lab mix had a procedure at blue-something vet hospital just off the kilpatrick. They regrooved the tip of the femur to accept the tibia at a different angle. I forgot the name of it. Worked well, total cost was about $2800 I think. Our pet Insurance paid all but 500 or 600 or so.
He’s doing great, been probably 4 years ago
