Yeah, I hear all the time about mission trips to south america. My vote would be for them to solve the homeless/hungry problem here and then move on to Guatemala.
I think the difference is the Guatemalans actually want help, and are appreciative of it.

I take it a lot of people on this thread haven’t spent much time in spitting distance of the people they’re claiming want help, but if you want to become jaded there’s plenty of places that will let you volunteer or even pay you.

You know with the current rise of the homeless and wild pig population maybe nature will balance itself out and make the world a bit greener with the fresh pig manure.... :bolt:

Kind of figured that'd be the substantive answer.
So question , what would you do.
I personally am tired of seeing them trash everywhere they stay. There is a major homeless route north of my house that is a trash trail to and from where they occupy places that do not belong to them.
Being homeless does not give you the right to trash everything you touch. It is dangerous to kids in the area as well as pets. Several of us have cameras in the area around my block and we all watch out for each other. .
It is trespassing and thievery unchecked and ignored by authority.
It is not our job to deal with the issue , we elect people for these exact types of issues. Police cannot deal with it without the backing of city and state .gov.
But the people that should be coming up with solutions just shirk the responsibility and folks who get tired of the crap get called heartless and worse like it is OK for this behavior and we should just shut up about it.

So real basic question --- where should they go?
This attitude is how you wind up with this:

The simplest answer is ship them to blue states where they can get a dose of socialist utopia.

I watched first hand as the homeless and their liberal apologist destroyed one of the most beautiful cities in the country. These people are drug addicted parasites who are coddled leftist politicians who wax poetic about " lifestyle choice" and "harm reduction. " I can not count the times I have watched Emergency Medical and Hospital caregivers assaulted and injured by homeless turds. I saw the downtown of my city go from clean enough to eat off the sidewalk to tents of meth heads smoking drugs on the sidewalk while scab covered hookers openly peddled their wares. My compassion is all dried up.

Also this being a car dealership in the original article reminded me of this. Suspect pleads not guilty to raping woman in Seattle car dealership bathroom

You know it's a good question and I don't have a miracle solution. If so I'd probably not be doing my current job I suppose. And while I hit reply to you I suppose this responds to a few folks at once.

No one I know on any side of the table has ever talked warmly about homelessness. No side of the political aisle or economic scale. But like many issues in the country, once it becomes politicized then gfl solving it because it's another topic to squabble over while the rich rob us all dry.

Even if we were committed to solving it we'd have a major challenge because there are so many underlying reasons driving the issues and we'd have to commit lots of money to it. Committing money to treatment programs for drugs, housing assistance, job placement and training programs, reigning in healthcare costs. And to do that in an effective way we have to spend money to study what is really going to work and how to do it effectively.

Yeah I know by now I've already lost everyone, and sorry so sorry that I don't believe in putting people on a bus and making it someone else's problem. In my opinion that's just being a crappy human to knowingly punt the problem rather than taking the high ground of fixing it. This is quite literally the same as saying the elected leaders aren't doing it... They aren't, and they definitely seem to represent the public when they want to kick the problem down the road.

For my personal part I donate time and money to charities that are working toward solutions but I suppose I could do more. But until the people in the government get an absolute mandate from the people to fix the issues and make the world better then it'll get worse before better.

You're right about that, lol.

And "even if they had cellphones/addresses/paperwork" - I bet you can't run fast enough to chase most of them down to give them a job.

I've worked around these urban campers for way too long to feel much sympathy for them. They cut our fence, break windows, steal stuff...just screw all that.

Feel ya. I worked just North of the River on western in downtown OKC.

The **** they did, the **** they left, the **** they stole. We were all sick of their ****. So, I don’t give a **** what they do with them, they just need to be gone. Normal people can only take so much. Most folks I know have just about reached their limit.
