Around 1980, a rat built a nest around the carb in my boss's brand new (couple weeks old) Chevy pickup while it was parked in his carport.

He was going down the highway when the throttle stuck open, so he put it in neutral, turned off the ignition, and pulled over.

But it wouldn't die with the throttle open.

It sat there and "dieseled" until the cat converter finally got so hot it caught the pickup on fire, and the whole thing went up in flames.

There was a pile of charred cockleburrs under the breather (air filter housing).

I hate rats... :drunk2:

Buddy pulled into his dads pasture with a truck he had driven all day down the interstate.
It cost him about $5000.00 to pay for the fire trucks to come out to the location and put out the fire.
If your local VFD offers a package for insurance.......$75 a year is really cheap. That is what ours charges.
