We always have a cold front it seems the day before season to change their habits. It never fails....
Truer words were never spoken. I have noticed in the last week that the number of dove has markedly increased. So have the grasshoppers.
Never seem to be a shortage of dove, some years they are where I can get permission to hunt, others years they are on a place down the road.
Last year we had a good hunt, not stellar like years in the past, and two weeks later, I took a couple friends and we never fired a shot. Saw hundreds of dove on the highlines about 1/2 mile away to the west, and only one came our way.
I had better luck in late season last year. It was good as I had an 8 month old chocolate lab that was learning what to do by then.
How about an update on dove prospects? I live in Pontotoc Co, usually not a good dove area but am seeing several small groups of local birds.
I have been seeing a bunch in isolated areas.
This year is questionable looking. All this rain and non-stop cool fronts rolling through. I'm hoping that we don't get one that's cold enough to drive them through too early.
