Guy I know called in sick, went to Stillwater to coach a girls softball game and made it on TV unknowingly. His boss saw him on TV while watching the sports highlights and called him in the next morning.

Here is a sad story, I had a guy who was late habitually for work (military), shirked his duties and in general was a good-off. I counseled him and sent him to the First Sergeant who asked me what I wanted them to do with him. I said scare him but good.
So I went with him to see the First Sgt and Commander and he was read his Miranda Rights and started tearing up and shaking. After we returned to the office within a few days he was one of the best troops I ever had and he thanked me for straightening him out. Mad eme feel like I'd accomplished something!

The sad part is that he came to me one day and asked for the afternoon off because one of his buddies was killed in a car wreck and his wife was grieving. I said sure, go ahead and take the afternoon off.
The next day I heard that he'd got to drinking and knew he was in no condition to be his own designated driver so he had a buddy drive his little English convertible and he rand a red light and another car broadsided them and my guy was critically injured. He was in the hospital in a coma for a couple of days and then they decided to going to discharge him to the Veterans Hospital but before that occurred, he passed away. I still blame myself for giving him the afternoon off.

I’m sure you’ve been told a thousand times and it’s easier said than done but you can’t blame yourself and it’s not your fault. When it’s someone’s time, it’s their time.

I had a job placing people in jobs in two different cities in Kansas 90 miles apart. I could drive to Newton 90 miles away and be at work 30 minutes before anyone there showed up. I actually went to people's houses and picked up their asses and took them to work on several occasions.

I had one woman who demanded a taxi to get to work even though she had a car and work was about a mile from her house. I got her a taxi and the taxi fare came out of her paycheck because the company pays me and I paid her. She never knew it and thought she was pulling a fast one on me.

One of our local, 20-something yo, Socialists; actually looked at his pay stubs and was complaining about how much "the company" took out of "his" pay.

I was laughing and told him, "that is what "your government DEMANDS, to pay for all that FREE stuff that you have no problem with them giving out. Nothing is FREE."

He kept complaining, until I said, "welcome to the Tea party."

He got mad and refused to talk to me.

It is surprisingly how many people have no idea what is being taken out of their checks all they look at is amount that goes in their hand when they cash it. I have worked with alot of them myself.
It was listed on the expense line Taxi fare. She never looked.

I don't know how many times I've drug my sick, hurt, tired broke-ass to work because if I didn't show up, someone else would have to come in early or stay late. This thread pisses me off because at one time or another I had two guys who used every excuse that's been in this thread in some form or fashion. (I'm pissed at the slackers, not the posters).

I feel better now, mods please lock.....
