I sent an e-mail to Larry Potterfield CEO of Midway a couple of days ago just to express my frustration with how quickly primers disappear from his web site - like in 10 or 15 minutes. I've always been pretty happy with Midway's service and Larry seems like a stand up guy. I don't think he'd mind me quoting his reply:
"I am sorry primers are going so quickly. We put a 5000 primer limit per
customer to try and give as many customers as possible a chance, but we
are still selling out in minutes. Part of this is tied to the number of
primers we are getting in a shipment. Basically, no matter how many I
have on order they only send me what they can, when they can. Because of
the unprecedented demand for loaded ammunition, the factories are only
releasing components when they have a surplus over and above their own
production needs, so I may only get 20 or 50 thousand primers at a time.
When you consider we serve all 50 states, that is only 1000 primers per
state, not nearly enough to go around. As you might imagine, we sell out
quickly. Please accept my apology for the lack of stock, and I
appreciate your patience as the supply lines catch up with demand. The
good news is we are starting to get primers more often, compared to a
few months ago. I think we are starting to gain on the shortages. I will
also tell you something else, I am about to close on a deal with Fiocchi
to get some of their primers and may have those in the building this
week or the next. They are promising big numbers, so we will see. I hope
it will help get a lot of shooters back on the range. With summer here,
a lot of shooting competitions have started and the turnouts are lower
than last year, and that bothers me. These shortages are hard on our
sport, right at a time that we need to be getting more people involved.
While I have you, I want to personally thank you for your business, and
want you to know the entire MidwayUSA family, over 400 strong, is
looking forward to serving you for years to come."
