My cousins electric bill was in the 300+ area and she shut off all electronics by unplugging them when not in use. Made over 150 difference in her electric bill. I loaned my son a meter and I made a plug-in adapter so he could check amp draw on turned off apliances and found the microwave was pulling stupid amounts of power when not in use. He stated the power was the same when warming something up or when it was off. That was odd. He had an old fridge that ran all the time and was not super cold. Low on freon probably. I got him a new fridge and his bill dropped over 50 a month. His house is all electric and his furnace and outside unit is from the 90's and it gets cold but man the electric bill is high. He decided to try brand new window units just 2 of them and his bill is 1/2 of what it was. House is still nice inside. If the unit is not sized right or the condenser is small the electric bill will show it. That all electric unit really needs to be updated to a heat pump. No gas on the property. People say the heat pump is not a good idea because when it gets really cold the heat strips come on and cost a lot to run. Well an all electric furnace is what? Same deal but running all the time. Windows that let heat/cold in and lack of attic and wall insulation will show on the bill also. Hard to compare 2 different houses. You must factor in trees and wind/ sun blocks from other houses or structures. Concrete surrounding one house vs one surrounded by grass. Wood walls vs brick walls.. It all makes a difference. Top of the hill in sun all day vs bottom of the hill with a river running beside the house. Yea I wish I was fishing on the river from my back porch.
