I am in the process of helping a friend decide on one of the newer 410 over and under shotguns. Most are made in Turkey (probably in the same factory). They are very nice looking and range in price from $400. to around $800. Tristar, Stevens 555, ATI, CZ, Mossberg, YILDIZ (exclusive to Academy), Savage, .... Does anyone have any experience with these or other in the same category? Your two bits will be appreciated.

    I like Browning:cool:.

But yeah th 410s are like hens teeth to find and are expensive to boot. Have looked at the Stevens and they were decent enough just haven't found one in anything but 12ga around here. Stoger is another one that they might want to look at.

You could purchase a 12g and have tubes fitted for .410. Most competition skeet shooters do that - buy a 12g O/U and have tubes fitted for 20g, 28g, and .410.

Yikes. How much would a 12ga double with .410 tubes weigh? [IMG]

Wait til you price .410 shells. They are double the price of 12s and 20s. Find a 20 and call it good. 410s are hard to hit clays with, it's like shooting a rifle.

but if his heart is set, Savage and Stevens are the same gun manufacturer. Most guns from Turkey (MOST) are rough on fit and finish, so I wouldn't pay a lot for one. I'd find one of the cheapest with good reviews on the web and call it good.

The tubes will add a little weight (I think 10 - 12 oz). You can get fitted tubes, generic fit tubes, and sidekick chamber only tubes for all gauges. Never tried the chamber tubes and I’m not sure how they would pattern with a .410 chamber and a 12 g barrel. I’ve got Briley Ultralight full length fit tubes for my O/U. You get used to the additional weight pretty quick.

Thanks to all for your input. I personally do not understand why anyone would want a 410 but it is different strokes for different folks. It should be a crime to give a kid that is just learning to shoot a 410. It takes an experienced shooter to hit anything with a 410.

410 is an expert shooters gun. it's a caliber, not a gauge. was made for trick shooters like A. Oakley

Trap and sporting clays can be a challenge, the skeet range is where folks should learn to shoot a .410.
