Was out shooting a 1930s Stevens Model 86 22 bolt action when I got a surprise.

Only thing I can think is that it had a double charge of powder. The case rim separated and formed to the shape of the bolt face. Luckily there was no damage to me or the rifle. Watching the smoke roll out of the action was a bit surreal though.

The other 2 rounds in the pic are the next 2 that were in the magazine.

Glad you and the rifle are okay.

Had it happen to me when I was a teenager. A piece of the hot brass shrapnel embedded in my stomach skin. Lots of dancing, screaming, and a little blood.
it also took a chunk of wood out of the stock by the ejection port of the 10/22

Think I’d be ditching that ammo.
What exact ammo? I'd be contacting the manufacturer!

Remmington Golden Bullet. Bucket of bullets. 1200 rds.

The first 1000 rds or so were just fine. These were both in the last 200ish rds left in the bucket.

I switched to a box of Aguila after the 2nd one. That was in my son's rifle. I'm just glad my son wasn't the one shooting it when it happened. Again, no injuries to anyone or the rifle other than some ringing ears.
