You should file a complaint so they can issue a warning or potential recall with that lot#. Like others have said, save everything and don't shoot anymore. There are probably several Lots that have an issue.

No, the ammo I have is from several years ago. After I had the issue there were several discussions on various sites online about the Golden bullet "fired out of battery" in different firearms. The bucket I have is marked Y16AB1233.

I see. These were definitely not out of battery ruptures.

Several years back I had a few 50 rd boxes of some Phillipines-made .22LR. Had some case head blow-outs, though not near as extreme as yours. Figured the brass recipe was on the brittle side. Tossed 'em and went on. Brass can develop brittleness over time. That's what happened to a bulk box of Remington .22LR about 5 years back. Shot some when first bought; no problems. Shot more of same box of stuff 2-3 years later and had a few mild case head failures. Contacted Remington. They carried box balance back to their factory for testing. In about a week I was contacted to hear yes, cases had become brittle. They sent me new fresh ammo to replace.

Only experienced this with a 10/22. After a while a carbon ring builds up in the chamber. Needs to be cleaned out to prevent out of battery events. Obviously it can happen in a bolt gun.

I have experienced the brittle brass in 17 HMR ammo. Case splits have been all I have seen. No case heads blown. Spoke to Hornady about and they told me it was age related. (Old ammo)

Yup been there done that with Remington golden bulk 22 ammo a few years back. Blew/bent the extractor 90* from the bolt. Thank God nobody and nothing else was harmed. Reached out to Remington and it didn't go anywhere. I still have the box and damaged parts as a reminder not to buy Remington ammunition.
