New this morning:

Like many of you I've been following this sleazy little backdoor registration/gun owner ID scheme in the USA, but up till now I thought it was another "sky is falling" thing from the NRA/ILA. I really didn't think it was going to fly because Visa objected very strongly (see the text), and the MCC board dropped the idea. But the global ISO governing board has overruled the MCC recommendation to drop the idea, and so now ALL firearms related purchases worldwide will be specifically tagged and categorized with a new ISO "Merchant Category Code", tied directly to your CC/Debit account (and your personal info, home address, etc.). This info will be available to anyone who can access the MCC database. What could go wrong?

This action has the anti-gun folks (and progressive Democrats) all giggling and smiling. This is exactly what they've wanted for years, but were never able to achieve via Congress in this country. Getting it done globally was beyond their wildest dreams, and they are literally dancing in glee.

As the diaper in chief says, "This is no joke, man."

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn..." I quit caring a long time ago about what the .gov or most anyone else knows about my purchasing habits. Aside from private sales the .gov already knows I buy a lot of guns. As far as I'm concerned, I hope the number of guns in private hands worries the s**t out of the government.

I'll continue to pay cash when needed but I'm just not gonna worry about using my CC for gun purchases or at firearms businesses just yet. And I wouldn't be surprised if someone at Visa and/or MC is looking at numbers and thinking to themselves, "That's a metric s**t-ton of money we stand to lose on this hare-brained scheme."

Not to mention possible sanctions from various states. Texas (and maybe others) has already passed laws to prevent some banks from getting state/municipal contracts if they discriminate against legitimate firearms businesses. I hope more states follow with the "go woke, go broke" attitude.

**** 'em all...

For example, take a look around an Academy store. How much of their business is firearms or ammo? It looks like it would be a very small percentage. But ALL sales in there will carry the Merchant Code.

Keep Calm and Charge on!

It is not going to make a bit of difference in your life.

I will go so far as to say that I believe the government already knows exactly how many guns each of us own. They listen to every phone call, read every email and text, and probably monitor every purchase that is made. The only real difference here is that it is being conducted by private organizations. That gives the government deniability if it wants to act on all of that stored information they already hold. My concern is that the credit card companies will start to decline all firearm-related purchases. I buy reloading supplies online, as many items I need can’t be found locally. Losing that resource would be painful.

Who are you referring to?
I was just addressing the post in general.

To piggyback off of what @PBramble said, I can see the news now “according to credit card companies, guns are being bought in stores for $10” when really they’re recording those delicious onion cheeseburgers at h and h.

Who cares what big brother knows; what are you gonna do about it? We see what happens; they kill you dog, murder your family and label you the terrorist. Seems like there would be more security to be gained from a network of hobbyist that can support each other rather than worrying what big brother is going to do.
