If life was only that simple. How many retailers actually barter? Um, close to none. So under your simplistic view a person realistically has two choices, pay the bloated price or do without. What do you say when a new gun owner can not buy ammo because of those prices? Too bad, so sad, do without? Oh, someone broke into your house and killed your family because you had food and they didn't? Well, sorry, but that ammo you needed was priced accordingly due to the situation.
You are correct, most retailers do not negotiate on ammo prices, but I don't see where he stated retailers. His simplistic view has three options(they are even numbered for you). I don't see where the drama of a home invasion has a place in the argument. One box of ammo, even based on your exuberant 300% still isn't too expensive for most people to obtain for home defense...

Love how you call it "drama". Its called real life. And if someone can not afford something they need to protect themselves because retailers are being greedy during this time of unprecedented need that is what defines price gouging to me. And that one box of ammo can be too much. Just last week I had a friend who is a single mom of two kids realize she only had one mag's worth of 9mm. She just got laid off her job and the prices online were too much for her right then. Thankfully I was able to find some 9mm Blazzer ammo at Atwoods that was priced at normal so she was able to get a box.

Its easy to judge others for their needs when you yourself have plenty. And this is not a welfare statement. I don't want ammo given away for free, but I want companies held accountable for jacking up the price on needed items during times like this. Just like that idiot who bought up several thousand bottles of hand sanitizer and disinfecting soap then tried selling them for $70 a bottle. If companies want to do that with something that is a want that's fine by me. I will call foul when they do it to something the people need when there is a disaster like right now.

Real life is there will always be people in need of something that they can't afford. Your friend was lucky you were able to shop around and find a good deal- saying no to inflated prices and finding it cheaper elsewhere. We don't need the government to step in and try to regulate ammo prices. My point has been that this country was founded and has thrived on the ideology of free markets and limited government interference, and we should stick to those principles. It's not anarchy, it is freedom.

A firearm just might be the best choice for most people for defense. But it is not the only choice. It is not the only option. Hand sanitizer is handy to have, but is not a necessity.

I guess there's the primary difference in the arguments here. It seems that you believe that hand sanitizer and ammunition are necessary to life. I do not.
It also seems like you believe government price controls are a good thing. I do not.

I was with a group of shooters just over a week ago. At least 8 of the 14 were complaining the were low on ammo and having problems getting any. A few had to scrimp to round up enough rounds for this particular event requiring 150-200 rounds.

These are people that shoot at least once a week. I was amazed. For about a year, common pistol ammo has been selling at the lowest price since the Obama and Sandy Hook impacts.

I myself am a bit lower in a 9mm than I should be. But, I sure won’t run low within a few months of the shortage even if I keep the same pace. I got incredibly busy the last year and supplemented my reloading by using some of my factory ammo stash.

Well, there are people who support anarchy, socialism, communism and they all think they are right. History has shown what businesses will do with no government regulation. I'm not looking for total regulation, just enough that businesses can't screw over the people just to make more money.

I've rarely shot factory ammo since the 80's but that walmart sell off was cheaper than I can reload the rounds. I'll work my way through it and get back on the handle to make reloads.
I hope folks don't forget this like they have the past shortages and stack deep and/or learn to reload.
