Very interested

Where abouts did this fancy cooler come from?
It was from Walmart I believe. They also have smaller sizes as well.

I actually have the same (or nearly the same) Coleman as that. You won’t be disappointed at all. Unfortunately, mine is a much smaller than these 70/77qt and I wanted as close of a comparison as I could get. And I know that the free air volume inside will effect the results. But if end up getting another lifetime I plan on one more similar to it in size, so may do another melt test eventually between those two.
I like nice stuff but am cheap. I have 4 rotomolded coolers, and all were bought second hand off message boards for a fraction of the new price. Before buying another cooler, take your time to shop for used ones.

Cheapie cooler: 56.5° on bottom interior, appreciable melt and water pooling in bottom

Fancy cooler- 53.8° on bottom interior, appreciable, but significantly less, melting and water pooling than the cheapie cooler.

Cheap cooler- 38.7° at bottom interior, significantly more melt than last check

Fancy cooler- 37.1° At bottom interior, very little additional melting since prior check.

Interestingly, the temps of the interiors of both plummeted overnight. My guess is due to the lack of sun, plus the melt water becoming further cooler by the ice that is present, but hey, it’s neat to know anyway!

We purchased a Coleman, couldn't be any happier with it and it keeps our things cool for a very long time.
Note* freeze half gallon jugs of water without the lid first, then after freezing put lid on. Clean, last a very long time, and no water mess to get on your stuff!
Refillable, cost savings compared to buying ice at the store, it's an all around win win!

Any cooler is affected by ambient temps and how many times it's open and closed. keep drinks in a separate cooler and your food stays cold longer. We've completely melted the ice in a Yeti 110 in one day getting drinks in the summer Texas sun.

Yep. My plan for the “better” cooler is to be the food cooler. The other will be for drinks (since drinks can fluctuate in temps and not be as effected as say meat or other foods would be). So the one with the food (versus drinks) would only be opened at mealtime. So should help keep it from being overly exposed to the outside air

120qt Coleman chest of ice, set in shade
68qt Coleman with food
55qt Coleman with drinks

Get up in the morning and add ice to food chest, add drinks and ice to drink chest.
Very little melt in 120qt
