S&W Model 12-2 Airweight is an aluminum frame version of the Model 10 commonly called the Military and Police. S&W put model numbers on their revolvers in the 1955-56 period. Mine was shipped in 1963. All S&W revolvers made after WW2 are "drop safe" so there's no need to carry them hammer down on an empty chamber.

I'm always tickled when people get their knickers in a twist at uncovered trigger guards and "unprotected hammer," non of which were issues before striker-fired, plastic fantastic bottom feeders with "trigger safeties" became "a thing."
