@MR.T. - that turtle will be fine. No need to risk your fingers. Like @dlbleak said, it will rust away and won't bother him a bit.

Normally, I wouldn't think twice about it if it did kill the turtle. Heck, I go to the pond & shoot turtles for fun.
But can't shoot a turtle on the lake. & I'm not one to let a animal suffer a long painful death.
Good to hear that it will rust away & the turtle will be fine.

I just picked up an old 8$ Johnson reel at Redbeard`s Treasure Chest in Bixby and put it on an 10$ Southbend 350 rod that had picked up last year...
I pulled off all the old line and opened it up and was surprised at how clean it was inside. I removed the old grease and give a good cleaning and used some gun oil on the moving parts and then put some fresh 6lb low vis Trilene...

Johnson Century 100B's were made in 1962 and were discontinued in 1979.

I went out caught a nice little Bass with that rig and now it`s retired to the wall.

Lawd, I think it may be 1979 since I've seen one those. Forgot all about them!

I have a reel exactly like that. Came from my grandfather after he passed. It’s in a display case I’m building for my son. Too lazy to walk out to the shop to take a pic tonight. Lol.

There was a 100 A that was somewhere produced between 1957 and 1962 but or 25$ it should really have the box and paperwork but it`s still not a bad price if it functions properly and it`s what you`re looking for. I just went for the cheaper 100B.
