Where they bust the sod in South Tulsa County.
On Wednesday this past week my son and I fished the tail waters of the San Juan River in NM. We drift boated and caught and released somewhere between 12-13; all were Rainbows except for one lone Brown. The Rainbows were as large as 18-19”.

Fished those tailwaters once. Beautiful area and congrats to you and your son having a great float trip.
Amazing numbers of big trout. When we were there last, it was snagging season for Kokanee salmon. Kind of screws up throwing the fly as there are snagging hooks flailing through the water.

I'm not going to post a pic as Y'all know what a 6" bass looks like, but we went to some farm ponds today that are stunted by overpopulation and removed lots of stunted fish to move to our new ponds. Checked a couple of the hatcheries that deliver in this area, and those fish would have been $1 each, so the fuel was paid for and we had fun. Lots of moss, but going back with the kayaks soon to get more which will help the new ponds get stocked and reduce the overpopulation of these ponds. Perch trap will be set in a drainage ditch to get some bluegill to stock as well.

My fault that I was lazy and didn't do a better display of the fish for pictures. You can't see the spiny dorsal fin spread out to identify the fish well. They are saugeye. Both saugeye and walleye have a white tip. The spiny (front) dorsal fin is one of the easiest ways to see the difference in saugeye and walleye. The saugeye will have black spots throughout the fin. The walleye will only have black at the base of the rear of the spiny dorsal fin.

Oh ok well I stand corrected! They looked like walleye to me, oops. Good info on the identification.

I got in about an hour of fishing before the storm rolled in and sent me to the car, nearby lightning strikes and me standing there holding a 12ft tenkara rod
😀
I figured I best call it a day. I caught 5 on a Trim Grim and I caught the darkest Red Ear I`ve ever seen on a 3" trout worm...

Took my 10yr old son fishing for a few hours this evening. Just did bank fishing, weather was too questionable to worry about messing with the boat. We had reasonable action. Kept a few big fat bluegills, and kept one bass. Enough for a nice fish fry for dinner tomorrow.

Yes I occasionally keep a smaller bass… as a matter of fact the wildlife department recently made a video about how people need to start keeping some of the smaller bass. Many lakes are overrun with ‘em, causing stunting.

Exactly. Took 9 stunted bass from a pond we caught yesterday to my new farm ponds today that were totally full. Had no clue we had that much rain in that area. They are 20' deep into ground water so summer drought should keep enough water for the cows lessee has on the place. Not the biggest ponds, but it’s water and they are deep.
