I have 2 kids on WIC now. They are foster kids currently which means that they qualify just for that, However my wife and I do need the assistance. I have 2 adopted kids and 2 foster. When DHS called a year ago and asked if we would take our 2 kids younger brother and sister we said yes, of course. They were 2yrs old and 3 months old, had health problems, and needed lots of care and attention because of where they came from. My wife quite her job to take care of them. Boom income cut in half. I was being abused essentially at a job and had to find another. That came with a pay cut. So now I have 4 kids and less than half of the income i did with just 2 kids. Things are turning around and some job opportunities are on the horizon for both my wife and I. WIC gives you vouchers for specific food items like milk, cheese, fruit, bread, etc. There isn't much of a way to abuse that. I guess you could sell them, we don't. Tomorrow the adoption of my youngest 2 will be finalized and be part of the family forever. Job losses and pay cuts were worth it. Some times you do what you gotta do.

That is true. WIC has about the least amount of fraud compared to other programs. I worked for WIC years ago. We used to audit grocer stores for any problems.

You're good people, TWSS.

Thanks. Just trying to show that sometimes these programs do help those that are trying to help themselves. There is a ton of abuse and it gives the few trying to do it right a bad reputation also.

This is why I support having the welfare system. Some people game game the system but if it wasnt for the system we'd see alot of needless suffering.

My mom did the same thing....she wasnt an angel. Sometimes she sold them to pay her utilities and other times she went gambling. Then again maybe she sold some cheese for 20 bux n bought 15 dollars worth of meds...then spent 5 at casino. Either way she was just livin ligfe at the bottom. I dont begrudge a person for livin a little even though they are very poor.

The drug thing is just more intrusiion and adds cost to an already expensive program, although im not totally against drug testing ei th er.

Take TWSS for example. Hes trying to do some good, should he be automatically drug tested? Prolly justa waste of time to test him. Prolly the test would be negative. What if it was positive? Does that mean the kids dont need clothes or some food?.

I have a sister in law who is single, her and her boyfriend get "assistance" cause neither of them wants to work. She gets more in food stamps for herself than my family spends on groceries most months, and she spends it mostly on cigarettes I think. I have 6 kids that we homeschool and my wife is a stay at home mom. I don't make a lot of money, but we aren't hurting, God has blessed us and there has alway been enough. Just barely sometimes, but enough nonetheless. I know more people who abuse the system than who use it out of need. A friend of mine with an equally large family and a similar income was practically recruited by the food stamp people. He didn't take them, but they were offering him like $1300 a month in "assistance" that just crazy...

So tell me how she purchases tobacco on her benefits card or WIC. I'm genuinely curious.

Not sure, I know sometimes they buy stuff for other people in trade, I just know she was complaining about the amount she gets being "barely enough to get what she needs" she could work but doesn't, and her life goal is to get on 100% disability.

There was a mom and pop store that was busted a couple of years ago in north Tulsa for doing it. IIRC, they were selling tobacco and beer by ringing up food items.

Back in 1986 when I got my first job at a grocery store, we had a cashier get busted for doing the same thing. Back then it was easier because they used paper food stamps.
