Not sure about all the mm's in artillery, but the US had a couple of weapons of mass destruction, they had that going for them, and the best 1911's, and the best Fighting Men and Women.
Navy had some pretty big guns, lost a lot of those, in a harbor.
But the ones who did that paid, in spades. Interesting that now they're one of our most solid allies.

Did they have 20 mm in WWII?
Yes, the 20mm caliber was widely used in World War II, most notably in the form of the "Oerlikon" anti-aircraft cannon, which was employed by both Allied and Axis forces on various ships and aircraft during the conflict.

Key points about the 20mm in WWII:
  • Oerlikon cannon:
This Swiss-made 20mm autocannon was one of the most prevalent 20mm weapons used in WWII, seen on numerous Allied and Axis warships.

  • Naval usage:
The Oerlikon was particularly prevalent on naval vessels, from small patrol boats to large battleships.

  • Anti-aircraft role:
Primarily used as a defense against aircraft, the 20mm Oerlikon provided a rapid rate of fire against aerial threats.
