So I've been looking into basic survival more and more and it has me looking into the minimalist thing pretty heavily and with the good backpacking weather coming up, I'm thinking of taking a different approach to backpacking this next time and going as full minimalist as I feel safe doing (mind you, I'm not going to Les Stroud it with a knife and a multi-tool, but I'm looking to head out for a few days in Oklahoma's Colder Fall weather with less than 30Lbs of extra stuff on me). I'd like to even do some living off of the land food-wise, but I'm not completely sure of my fishing/hunting skills with improvised hunting/fishing tools (bringing arrow-heads/fishing hooks/line and having to build a bow or fishing-rod, etc...). In looking at the various survival and minimalist sights, one thing has started to Intrigue me - Personal Survival Kits (specifically, minimalist PSKs). I've started putting one together, but as a pack-rat, mine has ended up being pretty large and I'm having trouble letting go of certain things. Here's ESEE's Bladeforums contest (and some good ideas): http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=787035 Here's some basics from a couple of other sites: http://www.survivaltopics.com/survival/personal-survival-kit-contents/ http://www.equipped.com/survlkit.htm http://www.equipped.com/prsnlkit.htm http://www.troop149mchenry.org/MiniPSK.htm http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/skills/b-p/survival.htm Just playing with it for now, but I plan on building one from my left-over backpacking stuff and building the Super Cat stove from here: http://www.okshooters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83983&page=3 And taking out a limited-budget PSK and really testing it out for a few days of minimalist hiking. Here's my list so far (feels bloated to me - I need to slim it down):
