Fort Sill Privately Owned Weapon Range Closed

The Fort Sill POW Range has been closed for the time being. The range was determined to be unsafe by those in the know and will only reopen once required changes are completed. I know no more than that. Information was obtained through the appropriate office on Fort Sill.

Please confirm, though you do seem to be in the know, that you were discussing the POW (pistols & rifles) range not the skeet and trap range. The latter was closed for lead cleanup and is probably gone for good. The former would be a new issue.

I went out to the range yesterday. A sign on the barricade said closed till further notice.

Privately-Owned Weapons Range UPDATE:
Fort Sill is expecting to reopen the post privately-owned weapons range Aug.1.
Fort Sill MWR has taken over the range and work is being done now. We are told there will be a small charge (comparable to other installations) to pay for upkeep and staff.
We will have more details when they become available.
