If you wanted to introduce someone to fishing, this weekend is the time to do it. No license required sat & sun on any state lake and most city municipal lakes. Pretty sure most waters wave use fees too, but you might check into your preferred lake.

Just heard on the local news that Texas also has license-free fishing this Saturday (June 5th).
