Well, day one was yesterday afternoon in 97 degree temp and 2mph wind. Dead calm basically. Kaw is 7.7’ high but the water in the lower lake is green and 2’ visibility. Started on a rocky point. Didn’t know what I was looking at. Saw blips of fish moving through the cone which is 20 degrees at the transducer, getting wider with distance. Unit at factory settings. The 20 degrees as I understand it now is a vertical beam about 12” wide. It projects in front of the transducer as well as behind. (More than one transducer in the head) The 12” doesn’t vary much. All the videos I saw and saved were shooting at trees, so I moved to an area I knew held trees although they were completely under water with the high lake levels. Once again, fishing this lake since a kid I know all of the locations committed to memory using landmarks. Ended up 30 feet away. Using YouTube intel, changed some factory settings and the cluster of trees was right there. I could see white dots swimming around. LOTS of them. Shad or minnow balls. The bigger white dots would show up swimming into the balls of little dots and dispersing them for a short time. Keep in mind the beam is 12” wide so the action comes and goes from the screen. My transducer is on a movable pole so I can scan side to side. It’s hard to understand at first that your not fishing side to side but front to back depending on where the transducer is pointed. Using the 13’ crappie rod, started stalking a really big white blob. Saw the jig enter the water, steered it to the fish and got the hit. Nice 14” crappie. Started playing with the controls to see what they did and got everything out of whack. One button to go back to factory settings. Ran out of light and needed to go to OKC this morning. Crappie was released.
