1962 through 1965, 13 men were supposed to die building this arch but none did. The arch is just as wide as it is tall 630 feet. It was designed to sway 18 inches with 150 mph wind. To get to fit the final section, they had to cool the side getting sunlight with water pumped from the ground to cool it off so they could push the two ends apart.
