Interesting.
Several years ago that large American cities (including Chicago and L.A.) were seeing record LOW numbers of murders.
They were reporting the lowest number of homicides since in the late 1960s.
I remember reading news articles about it and there was no clear answer why the numbers were so low.
Just like I'll bet there are no clear answers (to the media, crime "experts," etc) why the numbers are so high now.
