Found a good deal on am 18 3.5l has some rust. Came from up north. Was getting opinions on this because I never dealt with rust before. Is this too much for a truck I'll be keeping

I'm guessing road salt it was sold and lived in Illinois for 2 years. I didn't look inside yet I'll have to check the seat tracks. I'm not sure if it will spread. I could por 15 some areas I guess

I'm from pekin originally. I remember my dad always washing the under carriage. Can't remember what neutralizer he used. Some of those vehicles up there were pretty flimsy after 10 to 15 years of use

I didn't see anything I'd be afraid of. I'd stop what I could when I got it though. As alluded to above people from up there assess rust on a different scale than we do. And then us vs desert SW.

But again, if it was something I really wanted I'd go for it.

Those steel parts will outlast the drivetrain if you keep it clean.
I usually spend a week under cars I get removing mud and rust and sealing it all up.
