God, the SHTF threads always kill me. People are going to "bug out". Where? I hear guys (even my own brother) talk of this kind of foolishness, but I'd like to know where everyone is planning to go (if they don't have a setup there already). "I'm going to the mountains". Right. If they can make it, and 9/10s of the plains folk talking this garbage have never had to actually survive in the mountains. Bear food, for sure - before some other Cleetus kills the bear and eventually starves to death. If it hits the fan, I'm staying home - or - heading to my parent's house in Kansas if I can make it (water well there, etc.). Somehow I think people don't realize that food will only last for a very short time, and eating 5000 rounds of .223 ammo or the plastic gun-de-jour that normally eats it isn't going to produce much of a turd. Wise people would bug in, not grab their "bug out bag" and run out into the unknown. Better to have twice as many seeds as cartridges, I say. After every toothless redneck kills everything you can shoot to eat (and leaves most of the carcass to rot on the ground), the idea of a firearm for anything other than personal protection is pretty much moot - except for the smart ones to guard their gardens and water wells. My guess is most would eventually die from starvation or two-legged predators.
