http://www.kjrh.com/dpp/news/local_news/police-searching-for-shooting-suspect ---------------------- Last Modified: 5/31/2011 3:21 PM Multiple shootings and a carjacking resulted in two deaths this afternoon near 21st Street and Yale Avenue, Tulsa police say. The dead include the victim of the carjacking who happened to be in the area during the crime spree and the gunman, police said. EMSA medics pronounced both men dead at the scene, said Chris Stevens, a spokesman for the ambulance service. Police are continuing to search for another man. but his role in the crimes is unknown at this time. The spree started about 12:25 p.m. when police received a call to the 2200 block of South Oswego Avenue, Officer Leland Ashley said. The call indicated that a man was en route to the home to do harm, Ashley said. When officers got there, they saw a suspect walking to the door with something in his hand. Once he got to the door, he put a gun to a mans head and held him hostage, initial reports indicate. Officers tried to intervene as the gunman and hostage got into a vehicle and started driving toward Yale Avenue. Witnesses said that as gunman drove, he fired shots at police, according to Ashley. The man then pulled into the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 21st Street and Yale Avenue and went inside. Witnesses reported seeing a gunman firing shots in the store. ~ He heard about 15 shots as someone yelled to get out the back of the store and people ran. Lots of people ran to the exit, he said. I was running with them. The gunman then ran out of the store and carjacked a pickup truck. Shots were apparently fired during that heist and the driver of the vehicle was killed, police said. Officers fired at the vehicle in an attempt to stop the carjacker. The gunman drove about a block or two and wrecked, Ashley said. Police also reported initially that one shot was heard inside the truck, which came to rest on 22nd Street, just east of Yale Avenue. Officers surrounded the vehicle and the Special Operations Team was called. The departments armored personnel carrier is also on the scene as officers cautiously approached the truck. By about 2:15 p.m., officers reached the pickup truck and confirmed that a man inside, who is believed to be the gunman, was dead.
