I was at an outdoor wake, the people hosting it had a pool. It was far to cold to swim, and besides, it was a wake. Nobody was swimming.

The automatic pool vacuum was running, and occasionally would come up to the surface and splash/spit water out. One had to keep a half eye out when walking by the pool, to avoid getting attacked by the vacuum.

I called it 'Cthulu' the Pool Vacuum, but nobody got the reference.

Yes, I was very lonely at the wake. I don't drink, and apparently no person there reads any Lovecraft.

Sigh....

Took college for me to get into HP Lovecraft, before that I was deep in to Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov and a variety of new, old and vintage sci fi.

The Caves of Steel (Daneel Olivaw) was a good series. Commonly referred to as the "Robot series"
I really need to finish the rest of the Foundation series one of these days. (Of course I'd have to get the books first....)
