I don't know if it has more recoil but it seemed to be sharper if that makes sense? the 45-70 pressure in modern stuff should be in the 40K and the 500SW which I had to check is 60K so it's a higher pressure round and normally higher pressure rounds have a sharper recoil curve than the lower pressure stuff. That Sharps rifle I shot was shooting black powder 405gr on top of 80gr BP and while it didn't kick hard it tried to push you over, the 45-70 I shot in the Marlin rifle would crack you more than try to push you over and the 500SW Handi would just kick the crap out of ya! like an above post I've seen several Handi's for sale in the 500 with several rounds so I'm sure they were like me and just didn't like the recoil. The pistols I like to shoot but the break they have does an amazing job and the weight of the pistol do an amazing job of dropping the recoil to about what I thought to be a 44 mag. Guys I'm not going to lie I don't like rifles that kick so you might be fine this is just my opinion so take it for what it's worth. Later, Kirk
