Hope ya'll have a great time.
I like it down where the families vacation homes are. Like I said West end. It's a quiet community, mainly older folks or their family. I can't stand loud partying type folks that you may find in some other "hotter vacation spots". Sea Isle is mainly made up of residents and everything in the community such as boat ramp, pool, tennis courts (yuck), fishing pier and such are kept locked and accessible only with a resident key. I guess another big positive for me is it's pretty much free! Lol. I can use 3 different houses, 4 boats, rods/reels and tackle and both my mother and uncle love cooking for folks. Everynight will be steak and/or shrimp someway. About the only expense I ever have is fuel to get there but usually my mom hides money in my car somewhere before I leave. I guess that may answer why in the Sam Hill I go there. LolWhy in the Sam Hill anyone would go to gal vestonis beyond me. But good luck and have fun. I’d rather rather be further around down the Tejas coast around about Rockports or furders south.
My grandparents used to spend winters in Mcallen Tx. He had lots of stories of gigging flounders. The old retired guys floated around laying on inner tubes with a spotlight and a gig. I guess their eyes shine like a frogs?View attachment 118763My brothers house sits right on a canal. He keeps his flounder gigging boat hanging in a sling ready for nighttime action.
When I was a kid we walked the flats along the grass edge during outgoing tide. Flounder bed down on the bottom waiting for bait to come by. Depending on water clarity but usually knee deep water. Used a Coleman lantern with a reflector around half-2/3 of it. They had a lil "eye shine" but you could see their outline laying there covered in silt. Now since most of the family has gotten older they have flatbottom boats with little air motors above their outboards. Upfront will be a deck and lights similar to a bow fishing boat. You want these boats very light of course. Brother said his current setup with 3 men and gear can run in 3" water with air motor. My grandparents used to spend winters in Mcallen Tx. I don't mind driving for folks if ya just want to snooze on the way back and forth.I like it down where the families vacation homes are. Like I said West end.
