Hearing Aids - Who’s got ‘em?

I've been wearing hearing aids for over 15 years. Only 1 pair was covered by insurance and they were the worst pair I've ever had. Present pair came from Sam's Club. They were the low end of what they offered but work great. Service has been fantastic with free cleaning and replacement was guards. Turning them off at night gets 8-9 days on a battery. I'll be going back for a new pair later this summer.

I have a pair sold by Hearing Life,,,
The dang things cost me close to 5-Grand.

I'm torn as to whether I can recommend them to anyone though,,,
I'm not certain if it's a problem with the product,,,
Or with the customer service.

The right one was bad out of the box,,,
I could never get them to believe it wasn't working properly.

Then the business changed management and I took it in again,,,
They had new people who listened and they sent it in for evaluation/repair.

Four days later I received a new replacement under warranty.

Just a few weeks back the left battery started dying after a few hours,,,
I went in to buy a new battery and was told they weren't available.

They told me that there was a problem with that battery,,,
It was actually causing damage to the hearing aid,,,
There is no replacement rechargeable battery.

So now I'm stuck with having to replace batteries.

The good thing is that they will supply me with free batteries as long as the unit is working,,,
I was not a happy camper as I don't like being dependent on their largess.

The good thing is that the batteries last a lot longer than I had thought,,,
The disposable battery they gave me has lasted over 10 days now.

They gave me 3 packs of 6 batteries,,,
And told me to just drop by for more when I needed them.

The Brand is Optima,,,
I doubt if I'll get them again.

Sadly, no.

I read where the VA would cover some if not all of the cost thru a VA facility.

I don't think my insurance is gonna cover squat, but they said "maybe, if the provider submitted a pre-authorization". Whatever that means.

I have had 2 different pairs of hearing aids over the last 10 years or more from VA, (free) and they both suck. One in ear with batteries and one rechargeable. Both have had to be sent in for repair (repair service is independent business from VA) several times and usually come back worse. Three to four week turn around. Also have had glasses from them (in Arizona). Arizona VA was easy to use and if you live 40 or more miles from a VA you could use local services and VA would pay for it. Due to the difficulty of using VA in Oklahoma, I wouldn’t even consider using there services. I pay extra for upgraded Medicare and and would rather pay for glasses and hearing than try to navigate the VA. Was much better under the last administration.
