My first set of hearing aids were Oticon and they were an amazing improvement for me. I have had tinitus for over 40 years, and they seemed to make it just disappear. The VA in Pensacola, Florida did an exceptional job from start to finish. After I moved back to Oklahoma, I got Phonak. Both sets use regular batteries, because I didn't want rechargables. The batteries last about 3 days. Both brands came with a streaming device to allow me to hear the TV sound without blasting everyone else out of the room. The Phonak seems to mute other sounds when I am streaming. That makes it difficult to hear my wife's speech when I am watching TV. I do not like that "feature". When I get new ones, I'll probably go back to Oticon. Oklahoma wind is certainly more obnoxious with hearing aids. Riding motorcycles with them should be avoided. I always remove them before using grinders, saws, and lawnmowers. Overall, I believe hearing aids are an absolute miracle. If the audiologist got a good test, the aids will really help you hear what you need to hear, without overpowering you in the frequency ranges where your hearing has less damage. You will hear details in music that you forgot about decades ago. Sometimes I forget they are even in my ears, until I go to bed and hear the squall of the feedback when I lay my head on the pillow. Overall, they aren't perfect, but they are still an absolute miracle and I sure wouldn't want to be without them.
