Hello everyone. I've had this old gun for quite awhile now that I joke with my wife that it was Billy the Kids gun. Now I know it isn't that old obviously but I'm looking for some kind of details or any history about the gun model. Really wondering what year it might be. This was either her grandfather's or great grandfather's service pistol.

It is a .38 I know and I also know that it doesn't fire because the firing pin was filed down when it was left to my wife's grandmother as her mental state was deteriorating. I'm wondering if that can be fixed to make it an actual firing gun. Thanks

Let me get the S&W bible out and do some research
I appreciate that. I tried Googling but I found many different things but never for sure on it. I figured someone on here would know alot better than me. I think the holster is probably pretty unique too. I really wish I knew the backstory of the weapon.

I believe you have a 38 military and police model of the 1905-2nd change. The second change refers to the two little holes in the star extractor. Made from 1906-1909.
Very nice peice, I'm just a little bit jealous.

That's interesting. Now I know what to look for so I can find more info. I would imagine someone would be able to fix the firing pin or hammer. I'm really needing something that I can have around for home defense or conceal carry but a non firing gun doesn't cut it. Although I'm not about to actually carry an early 1900's weapon for defense. I have to say though it feels smooth in its motions.
