Tiger Direct has some good stuff occasionally.
Just go to Best Buy with her and let her talk to one of those Geek Squad People. They hooked me up with a good deal; this geek kid said “this one is really awesome but if you can wait until Saturday, it will be on sale $150 cheaper.” It was Thursday. I waited until Saturday and he was right. I got a really nice HP with MS Office included for $399. Does everything I could ever need. They aren’t supposed to broadcast future sales so much I take it, but I sure appreciate that he did.

Decent price on a Surface Pro. $410 off, $549 or $499 for excellent condition open box.
I'll second Max laptops, you can buy a refurbished one from Apple more reasonable than a new one and all the bugs worked out. They're still a little pricey but a lot of people think they're the best.
I told the wife and read comments of this thread to her and said she needed to go look and feel one out.
She said she ranked that up there with buying a car from a dealer.
She said Screw that just make me a sandwich and I will eat it.
Now i do know what I need at least from you guys adding input.
How was the sammich?
Lol well if you want some help over the next couple days at a store or whatever let me know. I will be heading out of town on Wednesday but until then I am available if you need it.
If your looking for a good place to buy a (used) good laptop - I'd recommend 'Reel time & Movies' in Peidmont.
I've bought from them before and I was really happy with them.
They get used/slightly older computers - cleans up the computer (hard drive wipe) - and sells them at really decent prices.
....I'd recommend them.
Honestly, any (current) laptop will be fine for what you need.
Still choking on it.
